Lenny Kravitz at the Shrine- Los Angeles
Lenny Kravitz at the Shrine- Los Angeles

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Lenny Kravitz live in concert. He performed his last national show here at the sold-out show in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

His band included drummer, Royal Prince Franklin Vanderbilt, who did an incredible job of keeping up the energy. His guitarist, Craig Ross, outplayed Lenny with his amazing solos. I was entranced with his bass player, Gail Ann Dorsey. She wore a monk/kimono type outfit, and it reflected in her bass playing as it was very suave and just so calming. She was very inspiring to me. I’ll have to write a post about her specifically once I look into her a bit more. Lenny Kravitz had a keyboard player and three horn players as well whose names I can’t remember. I met the trumpet player, Mr. Carter, on the way to the car, and wish I had taken a picture with him! They were awesome!

Lenny Kravitz opened the show at the Shrine with some of his most recognized songs, American Woman, and Fly Away. I was sitting up in the mezzanine since the tickets were cheaper up there lol. But the view was great since it was at the Shrine. Here’s a snippet of his performance of Fly Away, in Los Angeles.

Here is a snippet of American Woman:

Before the show ended, he performed his latest single featuring Michael Jackson, called Low.

Lenny Kravitz, Let Love Rule
At the end, Lenny Kravitz allowed audience members to join him on stage

At the end, for the encore, Lenny Kravitz gave an enlightening performance, of Let Love Rule from his 1989 album of the same title. He gave a motivating introduction about the state of our nation, and how his fans represent the United States. He stressed the importance of unity, and now allowing ‘them’ to divide us. Then went on to perform Let Love Rule. It was a fascinating concert for all, adults and children alike. I hope we can all follow the example of loving each other as his lyrics explain,

“Love is gentle as a rose
And love can conquer any war
It’s time to take a stand
Brothers and sisters join hands We got to let love rule”
