What is a Renaissance Woman? That is what my daughter called me, so I had to look it up. According to the Google Dictionary, it is “a person with many talents or areas of knowledge.” Hmm.. Well, I’m flattered, so I will use that.
If you see me, you’d be as confused about me as you might be when reading my name. But, my name sums me up, pretty much.
Long story short- I was named after my Japanese/Brazilian uncle, Leo. I took on my mom’s maiden name as middle name. My grandmother’s family (Magario) moved to Brazil when she was 6, where she met my Japanese grandfather (Kawabe). My mother was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She then went to Japan to study, and came to the US where she met my dad, who had moved to Oakland from Azores, Portugal, where he was born.. thus the last name Reis. And there’s a long story behind that, which I will save for another day.
Today, this renaissance woman just wants to give everyone a little peace of my life. My friends and family will all agree that I am a mellow and usually calm person (unless I’m very angry).
My home has always been known as “The Oasis” where people can come to relax, and de-stress. I try to stay away from drama, but somehow drama likes to keep me company. I was blessed a few years ago to have my backyard chosen for a makeover as part of “The Outdoor Room” on HGTV. The name of the show was “The Ojai Inspired Oasis” They even put the photos in a book. Jamie Durie was the host, and a jolly and sincere fellow.
My hobbies and talents are vast, but time is limited to share it all. This blog, or website, or whatever they call it these days, will be where I share my passions in several areas of life. I have three grown children, who I love to hang out with. We’re working on a fun podcast I’ll share soon. I’m a musician and music producer- at least that’s what I call myself- and have a list of music I’ve produced. One being a remix for Thug Life, TuPac back in the day. I love wood working, reading, playing music with other musicians, exercising, and working my day job of Civil Engineering Consultant.
I apologize that this introduction has gone all over the place. There’s so much I want to say. In my next few journals, as I get the hang of this, I will target my stories toward specific topics, such as music production, wood working, civil engineering, parenting, and maybe even some grief help. I love to listen and help when I can. If there is anything that sparks your interest that you believe I can assist, please feel free to reach out.
