A friend I met in New York years ago is back in California. He knew a member of one of the bands and invited me to the Long Beach Funk Fest on Saturday. I wasn’t sure who would be in it since I hadn’t heard about it. It turned out to be a great event.
I took Lyft to Doly’s Delectables, a cute little coffee shop in Long Beach where we met. I hadn’t seen him in a few years, so it was nice to just sit and catch up over coffee.
We then drove to the Long Beach Pike parking lot. The parking lot was about half a mile away from the Queen Mary and walked. We tried the Lime electric scooter, but it wasn’t working. I spent $1.60 on just trying to make it work. What a rip off.
Arrival at the Queen Mary for the Funk Fest
We arrived at the Queen Mary for the Long Beach Funk Fest that Saturday. While I stood in line, he tried to figure out how we were going to get into the venue. His band member friend had him on a list, but alas, his name was not on the list. At the Funk Fest entrance, we mentioned that we were part of the band. Somehow they believed us and let us in lol. Much easier than all the trouble we went through looking for a list.
Long Beach Funk Fest Bands
We got backstage and met his friend who was in the band “Fatback Band“. If any of you remember, they had the hit song “Backstroke” in the 70s. Very cool people. We walked around the Funk Fest checking out vendors and tasting their various mixtures of Micheladas. Some were tangy with lime, others had tequila, and still, others had more chili for that spicy bite. They were all very tasty. While tasting drinks we watched various local bands. The bands included Dove Shack, Mello Man Ace, Kid Frost, Ying Yang Twins, One Way. You can take a look at all my little posts on the concert on Instagram.

The highlight of my night was seeing Chingy perform. I was so excited, especially since I wasn’t expecting to go to this. He was the last artist to perform. I was lucky to have a front-stage view. I wish I could have spoken to him, but I didn’t want to be part of the mob of people. Hopefully one day I can submit music and work with him.
I love concerts- The next one will be Lenny Kravitz, so if you love him too, stay tuned to my blogs! See you there!
